Do you know where your septic tank or tanks are located? Don’t wait till you have a problem to find them. Here are a few ways to help you locate your septic tank cover:
In the county records there should be a drawing of your septic system. Ask for a copy for your records and consider giving your septic pumper a copy of these records also.
If the home has recently been built, you can simply call the builder and ask where the septic tank and system are located. However, septic tank lids should be visible if it is a new construction. If you recently purchased the home, try checking with the previous owner.
If you have a basement, you should be able to locate the sewer line and follow it to where it exits the home. Then, try to locate it outside and follow it to the tank. You can do this by using a probe or a metal rod of some sort. Always be aware of underground utility lines.
If all else fails, you can call a septic professional to locate your septic tank or tanks.
If you have had to use any of the above measures to locate your tank, your lids may be below grade. This would be a great time to add risers to the tank or tanks. Risers are an extension of the septic tank to bring the lid to grade so access can be made to the tank without digging.
The professionals at Tim Frank Septic can help you locate your septic tank cover and even provide the service of adding risers to grade.
